April 27, 2025, We, BWOPA sisters and Vallejo local high school students, bused our way to Sacramento to experience a day at the capital. We were greeted with snacks, 'Power of the Black Vote' t-shirts, and 'Legislative Day' tote bags. We attended an AKA hosted talk with several speakers, like Tony Thurmond, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. We had a great Mexican lunch and then returned to the capital continue our legislative experience. We met with an assembly person's assistant who explained how she landed her job. Then, we met with Assembly person, Lori Wilson who shared about her daily activities, such as attending Assembly session, like the one this day that went a little longer than had been expected, causing her to be a little late. She answered some intelligent questions from the curious minds of our young and older attendees. Exhausted, we packed ourselves up to head back home a little wiser about with the we head back home, and be venturing off in students. It was a productive BWOPA day!
